CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Co-founder and builder of the non-profit visual
artist organization and gallery, the IFA�Art Studio
in Norfolk, VA., from December 1991 until September 1993.
Maintained and operated full-time commercial photo studio. Duties
as IFA� member included organization historian and photographer.
Community service involved volunteer workshops instructing youths, between
the ages of twelve and fifteen years of age, in the art of photography. In the winter of
1992 an eight week workshop was conducted at the Barry Robinson Center, Virginia
Beach, Virginia. Another workshop was conducted in the spring of 1993 at the Sumner
Terrace Complex in Norfolk, Virginia.
Implemented and organized the installation, tours and workshops for the photographic
exhibit
"YOUNG VISIONS: a new look at our world". The photographers were three young and
gifted urban D.C. teens. Their introduction to photography began when their families
were
homeless living in shelters and participating in Jim Hubbard�s �Shooting Back� project.
Having been published world-wide the �YOUNG VISIONS� exhibit was their first
major show within the Black community after their split from the �Shooting Back�
project. The exhibit ran at the IFA� Art Studio October thru November 1992.
Mentor and
project photographer for the Park Place community in Norfolk,
for the
Virginia Beach Center for the Arts photo-documentary "OPEN
SHUTTERS: Photographic Impressions by African-Americans in
Hampton Roads" also advisory board member in the planning
and implementation of project objectives and timetables
for workshops and exhibit of images of life by novice
photographers from various urban communities.
